Puddles. Lots of puddles.

Well, friends. I spent the good deal of this morning taking footage (I almost spelled that with a 'ph') of the rainy city as well as my first v-log. The editing bay studios inside my school use Final Cut Pro and I was really looking forward to using it but uh..I tried. And it wouldn't even open. I think it's because I took the video on a digital camera instead of a real camera. If anyone has any FCP savvy, please do let me know.

Actually can anyone recommend me to a video editing software that is easy to use and can be used on a PC? I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks :)

Can This Be True? Can it be real? How can I put into words what I feel? Oh no...I just quoted NSYNC.

Well, then! I suppose now's as good a time as any to start this thing.I do love making my own contractions. "Now's," "How're," "Amn't." Amn't might be my favorite. I haven't used the phrase "mmmmyeese" in a long time and I quite miss the shape of it. I think I'll say it out loud right now.

Ha. That was nice. Do try it, won't you? You have to flatten your lips together and hum the ''mmm'' really nasally, then you open your lips while they're still flattened and say "yeese." See? Wasn't that fun. I should give oration lessons. Perhaps. Perhaps I won't. No, I don't think I shall. Shan't!

Well, shall I talk about my day? I was beginning to wonder to myself when I would get around to write an entry and I feel that the events of the day were interesting enough to merit a post. Mind you, I make no promises to make all my blog posts as interesting as this one, (and I could be flattering myself to think that this is even slightly engaging on the basest level - but there it is) and in fact, I intend on making Video-logs quite frequently to accompany this site. I'm going to see Jason Robert Brown in concert on Sunday the 31st and you can expect a full.. debunking? No. Debriefing. You can expect a full and, almost certainly, a wildly enthusiastic debriefing of the evening in the form of a video log.

Now then, onto the day.

I am happy to report that I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of my classes. My French teacher is a doll of a young woman, my English teacher engaged us all in discussion and seems to actually like his job, my Sociology professor, Doctor Williams, was thoroughly impressed that I was the only one in the class of 80 that knew and could quote John Donne's "For Whom the Bell Tolls," and my News Reporting and Writing teacher, an investigative reporter at the Arizona Republic who swears like a sailor and gets away with it, is a huge Orson Scott Card fan; so, naturally, discussion followed.

All in all, I almost feel like I'm in college now.

So, because all my classes are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I set a goal to get a second job downtown that would allow me to work only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So there I was, sipping my tea at the Starbucks in Taylor Place...and I thought to myself.."Why don't I just go ask if they're hiring?" I had been told the last semester they did not have any positions open, but I decided I'd go ahead and ask again anyway. So, I approach the counter, present my inquiry, and the response?

"Oh yeah we're hiring but the only availability we could give you would be Tuesdays and Thursdays."

HA! Marvelous. Truly. So. I gave them my information and I'm going back tomorrow to find out when I can be interviewed and/or hired. Victory!

Next up, I have been cast as the lead in two student films with the Zaki Gordon Institute. It was really only recently that I took an interest in film and as it turns out, I don't suck! I love that film is all about subtlety; any slight facial expression or physical movement reads on camera - and it's just not so in theater. Now, I am absolutely, 100 per cent sold head-over-heels in love with the theatre, but I am truly fascinated with film. It's an entirely different artform with a completely different process. It's powerful, really.

Funny backstory for you, actually. I was told about the first student film by my friend Stephanie Bray. She knows the director and asked me if I'd be interested in auditioning for the film. So, of course I said yes. I show up to the audition, put my name on the sign in sheet, get the script and when I hear the name "Ella" being called, I assume they mean myself so I go into the room to read. I corrected them and told them my name was Ellyn and they said they didn't have an Ellyn on their list but I should go ahead and read anyway. They were very nice and really seemed happy that I was there. So, I read for two characters. The director really seemed to appreciate my work and said I absolutely understood the character and I was exactly what he was looking for. I leave the audition, and then two minutes later the guy I read the scene with says, "So, you auditioned for the wrong student film, you were actually supposed to audition for my film, but they loved you so much they definitely want to call you back. And I've seen enough of your work in the audition that I don't feel I need to have you read from my script."

So, I unwittingly auditioned for two student films at the same time and ended up scoring the leads in both! Two more for the resume, baby.

Well now. On to things of the future.

I literally cannot wait for the Jason Robert Brown concert. He is also going to be teaching a workshop at Valley Youth Theater and I'm going to swing by tomorrow to find out if there's any spots left. The age limit was 19 but I have a feeling I can sweet talk 'em into letting me sign up. It's $200, but hey, it's friggin Jason Robert Brown. If I don't get a spot, I can pay $20 to just sit in and watch the workshop. So, one way or another, I am going to be there.

So, here's my to do list for tomorrow:

-Check back with the on-campus Starbucks about a job
-Contact VYT about the Jason Robert Brown workshop
-Go to the library and check out the following: Uta Hagen, Meisner, Stella Adler, Stanislavski.

I will have to ask you to excuse this rather drab and unexciting piece of writing this entry has become, I do intend to make this blog 'thoroughly provocative, engaging, laugh-out-loud-funny and 'honey hand me another box of Kleenex' profoundly inspiring.'

I like to put quotes around some of my sentences that are actually of my own invention because it makes me sound smarter than I actually am.

Well, that's all for now.

Until I can come up with a more consistent sign off line that I expect to be widely recognized, I'll say:

A bientot!

-Ellyn
